I have been looking forward to and dreading this day for awhile. On one hand, I'm excited about the possibility of feeling better and more like myself again. On the other? No dairy? For a year? No thanks. I had given up a lot of dairy about two years ago when my acupuncturist suggested it, with the occasional ice cream or cheese cheat. Awhile ago, I added back in sheep and goat dairy to my regular rotation and didn't even miss the other stuff, although I still wasn't feeling great. Recently, my naturopath suggested a food sensitivity blood test, and guess what showed up? In every category? Dairy. Everything dairy. So today marks my first day in completely eliminating it in every form in my diet and my journey to feeling better. I also tested positive for gluten (which I've been avoiding for years except the occasional bite) and yeast, which may be a bit harder. No wine? No thanks. But I'll try.
Breakfast: I'm usually an eggs girl, but since we were out this morning, I had to get creative. I had a half of a leftover burger from The Counter. It was a bison burger with bacon and egg, so mostly breakfast, right? The bison was delicious. It's my new favorite.
I got some grapefruits in my CSA box last week, so I sliced them up, added the tiniest bit of sugar on top, and bruleed them in the broiler for a few minutes.
I usually try to stay away from regular coffee, but Monday mornings are my day to work on photography and get stuff done around the house, so I need that boost in energy. Today was my first day trying coconut milk creamer and I admit, it's not too bad. While I probably don't need the added sugar, I've got to start somewhere. And if you haven't had coffee from a French press before, it's life changing. So is Peet's coffee. I swear it's like drinking liquid crack. Not that I've tried crack, but I'd imagine it to be something like this.
So there you have it. My first dairy and gluten free breakfast!
